Health insurance for Foreign nationals in Germany In Germany exists a compulsory insurance in the health and nursing care. Everybody who has or applies for a residence permit in Germany has to be insured in a public- or a private health insurance. These two kinds of health insurance are exactly the same way as the residence permit applied for an indefinite period. If, for example, there is a compulsory insurance because of a contract of employment, the person has to be insured with a public health insurance. Except the case that the income is more than 59.400 € before tax and social security. In this case there is the right to be insured in the comprehensive private health insurance from the beginning.
The foreign health insurance is a temporary insurance cover and not suitable to replace the statutory health insurance (public or comprehensive private). By law a maximum contract term of max. 60 months (taking into account similar contracts with other insurers) is allowed for this type of protection. The insurance coverage of such incoming tariffs often corresponds to the coverage of the statutory health insurance, but the insurance does not equal. If the residence permit while staying in Germany is changing, the insurance cover needs to be adjusted.
Pension Plan insurance for foreign nationals in Germany: If you apply for a self-employed or freelancer visa and you passed the age of 45 you have to proof that you get a life assurance which ensures you to get from the age 67 for the next 12 years every month at least 1.188,92 € or the contract assets will be at least 175.068 € in the age of 67. Other fortune with an equal value would also be accepted.
